    My Writing

If you don't like dry sarcastic humour, please don't read any more of this blog, because I have a tendency to use it without thinking about it.

This blog will mainly be used as a development log, since I am not a big blogger and don't really have anything worth saying, though I might write a few tutorials and suggested usage articles along the way.

Oh by the way, in this blog, which is currently the only blog I am active on, I go by the original name of admin. I will not be commenting that much, but when I do, this is the name you will see.

CSS Menu Builder Video Tutorial

It looks like a fan made a video tutorial of how to use CSS Menu Builder, so I decided to post it here, so that you may use it, if you are having problems generating your css menus.

Centering a menu using either CSS, MooTools, jQuery or just plain JavaScript

One of the questions people have frequently asked me, is how do I center the menu. My answer to all have been that I do not know how to do this in CSS, as the list element occupies the full width of its container. So the only way would be to manually set the width of the list element.

The other day I started thinking that this could be done dynamically by using javascript. Of course some people will probably not like this method, so you should stop reading now.

I have created 3 examples, for people using either MooTools, jQuery or just plain JavaScript, you can see them below as well as examples.

Please note that all 3 examples require that you set the ID of the containing div element, this is so that a background image can be added to this element.

Update while writing
Of course while writing this tutorial, I found an article which explains how to do this using CSS, but since I had already written the tutorial, you will get all 4 examples.

WordPress menu integration tutorial

In the following tutorial I will try to explain how to integrate menus created via the horizontal and vertical menu builder, but only for WordPress pages, not for categories or archives.

Wordpress vertical page menu integration

WordPress vertical page menu integration

The horizontal menus are for top level pages and the vertical menus are for sub-pages, but only the first level, since this is limited by the menu builders. Go to the demo blog I have created that showcases what we will try to achieve with this tutorial.

Wordpress horizontal page menu integration

WordPress horizontal page menu integration

As you can see in these two images, its to look pretty good and if I am capable of explaining it well, you should be able to do this without breaking a sweat, though you might come to realise, that you have put to much confidence in my skills as a tutorial writer.

Anyway let’s get going.

jQuery tabbed content example

yes you guessed it, this also uses images from the horizontal css menu builder, actually it uses the exact same images as the earlier example that used MooTools as the javascript library. That’s the definition of laziness for you!

If you are using the MooTools version or read that post or have not had problems in browsers with that version or are never going to use these javascript tab menus, then there is really no point in reading the rest of this post. On the other hand, if you love reading about this stuff, please be my guest and read the rest of the post.
